Understanding Web Services Specifications and the WSE

by Jeannine Hall Gailey
book cover
Description
This book is an introduction to some of the advanced Web service specifications (including WS-Security, WS-Trust, WS-Policy, WS-Attachments, and others) as well as to the Web Services Enhancements for Microsoft .NET (WSE) version 2.0. In this book, I describe how these advanced Web service specifications can be implemented to to make your Web service-based applications more secure and more powerful and how WSE can be leveraged to make this task a whole lot easier. Since WSE is Microsoft's only support for these advanced Web services standards until Indigo, you might as well get started now because Indigo is being delivered with Windows "Longhorn," which is still a long way off.

Errata
The joy of writing books based on beta code is getting to write a long errata section when the product finally launches. Because of changes in the WS-Security (now Web Services Security version 1.0) namespaces after adoption by OASIS and numerous other changes in the WSE 2.0 API after the Technical Preview release, I will be posting an errata page that goes through the book chapter-by-chapter to make the necessary corrections, which will include most of the code samples.
